I am currently a full-time instructor for the Department of Science at Kwansei Gakuin University. Before this, I was an adjunct lecturer for the Faculty of Policy Studies at Kansai University. I have also lectured in Osaka Gakuin, Otemae University, Kobe University, and taught business English to various corporations.
I spent my formative years living in America and after completing my Bachelor’s in Business at George Washington University, spent a year in the financial consulting industry before joining the family business. I eventually found myself moving and settling Japan in my early 30s.
I hold a Master’s in Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) with a focus on Bilingual Education from the University of Alcala. My research interests include self-reflective teacher practices, learner motivation and autonomy, ICT in language learning, pragmatics, and curriculum development.
In particular, I am interested in how learners can activate self-efficacy through exposure to various learning mediums and project based learning. The resulting research will help towards developing authentic material curriculum for the respective academic disciplines.
As a teacher, I believe that my role is to help each student reach their full potential or as Joseph Campbell so aptly put ,“the job of an educator is to teach students to see vitality in themselves.” I encourage critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and autonomy in language learning.
During my downtime, I enjoy traveling, reading, watching movies, writing, and drinking coffee while learning new languages.
